WCAG 1.4.1 Use of Color
Level A
Don't rely on colour alone to convey information, indicate an action, prompt a response, or distinguish a visual element.
Common failures
- Required fields are flagged only by red borders.
- Pie-chart segments are distinguished only by colour, not by labels or patterns.
- Links inside body text are differentiated from surrounding text only by colour.
How to fix
- Pair colour with text labels, icons, or patterns.
- Underline links inside running text or use a non-colour indicator.
